How to Read Japanese Pokémon Card Listings

Japanese listing titles often combine condition words, grading terms, promo language, and search keywords. This guide explains common words without treating a title as proof of exact condition or value.

Common Condition And Listing Words

美品

Often means "beautiful item" or "excellent condition," but it is a seller phrase, not a grading standard. Always check photos for corners, edges, and surface wear.

傷あり

Means the item has damage or scratches. The severity can vary widely, so treat the listing as a caution flag.

白かけ

Refers to whitening, usually on corners or edges. It matters a lot for collectors who care about grading or condition.

未開封

Means unopened or sealed. Confirm whether the listing is a sealed card, sealed pack, or a sealed promotional item.

PSA10

Indicates a graded-card claim. Listing titles can use grading words as search terms, so verify certification photos and card identity.

まとめ売り

Means a lot or bundle. It is usually not useful for single-card activity ranking unless the title clearly identifies each card.

Promo And Rarity Words

プロモ

`プロモ` means promo. It can refer to many different cards, so the card number or campaign name matters. For example, broad terms like `ピカチュウ プロモ` can mix multiple Pikachu promo cards.

SAR / SR / AR

Rarity words are useful clues, but listing titles can use them loosely or include multiple rarity words for search visibility. The card number is usually a stronger identifier than the rarity word alone.

Why Card Numbers Matter

Different Japanese listings can use similar character names for different cards. A title like `ピカチュウ プロモ` is not enough to know whether the listing refers to `020/M-P`, `020/P`, or another promo. Searching by number can reduce confusion.

Why Listing Titles Can Be Misleading

Titles are written by sellers, not by a standardized card database. A single title can include condition notes, multiple card names, PSA terms, promo language, and search keywords. Treat the title as a starting point, then verify card number, images, and condition details.
